Guidelines for Learners
Welcome to the Marin Simulation Center! I look forward to having you participate with us in an exciting and challenging learning experience, and would like to provide you with the following information which will add to your comfort, and help you make the most of your experience with us:
Attire: Wear your proper uniform and come prepared with all equipment and materials you would bring to any clinical site. Parking: Turn into the entrance marked Lot 2. Park in Lot 2 and enter over the bridge next to the bus stop. If you do not already have a College of Marin parking decal, you will need to purchase a daily parking pass. There is a parking permit meter in Lot 2. The cost is $3.00, and it takes coins, bills and credit cards (Mastercard, Visa). Lunch: There is no regular food service on campus. The Internet Café has a limited assortment of drinks and snacks, and a refrigerator is available in the Sim Center for lunches if you wish to bring one. Restaurants are available within a short driving distance, but keep in mind the lunch break might be brief.
The Simulators utilized at the Marin Simulation Center (MSC) are highly complex and sophisticated state-of-the-art physiological models of a human patient. The following list represents what our expectations are of you, the learner, in order to preserve the integrity of both the equipment and scenarios:
· No food or drinks are allowed in the rooms with Simulators. · Please remove jewelry which might puncture or otherwise damage the Simulator. Watches may be worn, but please use caution when reaching under the Simulators, as skin may be damaged. Pencils are to be used for documentation in the patient rooms. Pens may be used in the debrief rooms only - ink stains the Simulator. · Betadine may not be used on the Simulator – it will stain the skin also. · Treat the Simulator with the same care you would a patient. They are well built but like a human they can be damaged, especially the skin. · Immediately report any technical problems with the Simulator to the MSC staff. Please do not try to fix the problem yourself. · Please report any personal injury immediately to MSC staff and your instructor. · Please maintain confidentiality as this helps us to provide a safe environment for learners at all levels. Confidentiality applies to your interactions before, during, and after Simulator experience, including other students’ actions, type of scenario, Simulator successes and failures, and sharing of scenario materials which are protected by copyright or intellectual property rights. |
